Namunaa

Namunaa is one of the Sisters at Her Farm she also happens to be the nurse at the Her Farm clinic.

We found out recently that she has been diabetic for the last 16 years. She has to continually watch her blood sugar and shots of insulin are often required.

We really like Namunaa. Keturah says, "she's like a mountain goat, because she just is, when she comes down the mountian she is jumping all rover the place like a goat." We didn't know her very well at first but we come to know her and love as we talked more with her and learned about the things she likes and does.

This past week she was put into the hospital we are working at. She came in with a temperature of 108. The sisters at the house here in Kathmandu sent us to the hospital with clothing and told us to keep and eye on her until they could get there. We sat by her bedside all day long waiting for the other sisters to come but they never came. At one point during the day her temperature spiked again. The nurses started putting cold wet cloths on her and watching to see if that would help cool her down a bit. It was very interesting to watch. It's a bit of an old school way to bring down your temprature but it worked which is all that mattered.

While we were there we met her baby Brother who was actually already there when we arrived. This wasn't his first rodeo  with this and he was so good with his sister. He watched her intently and made sure that if she moved the slightest bit he was there. He made sure there was fresh water there and food if she woke up. It was very cute.

Once he was used to us and knew that we would be there he went out and did the things he needed to do. He got into college which is a big deal. When he got back from that he wanted to show me all his forms and grades and his new school uniform. It was very sweet. He really needed a big sister at this point and Jenessa is the best big sister there is so.

At one point a friend of the brothers came. We became good friends and he taught me the first of my Nepali alphabet and I taught him how to play the connect the dot and make squares game. This boy was so nervous to be at the hospital and once again Jenessa was just doing her thing and being a big sister.

We left at 4:00pm. At that time Namunaa's temperature was back up and they were taking more blood samples. Keturah will have to give more details of the medical stuff that went on as I sure don't pay attention to that. They had to give her insulin once and she was on an IV. Towards the middle of the day she was still asleep and they couldn't get her to stay awake for more than a minute at a time.

Three days later she is now here at the Kathmandu house doing much better. This time was a bit of a scare for everyone. She was carried down the mountain and brought into the hospital without any awareness of what was going on. One of the sisters here at the house said that Namunaa is a great nurse one of the best, however she forgets to take care of herself first.

We really like her and are very glad she is doing better.

Jenessa, the greatest big sister in the world
& Keturah, aren't I so lucky

  1. Keturah, you're right. Jenessa is just like that, always managing situations and knowing what to do to help people.
